BPI Healthy Home Evaluator Training & Testing

DATES: October 25th - 27th, 2016

LOCATION: CCI Center 64 South 14th Street, Pittsburgh PA 15203

Help break the link between Unhealthy homes and Unhealthy families: Earn the Healthy Home Evaluator (HHE) Credential

Developed in partnership with the Green & Healthy Homes Initiative, (GHHI) the HHE micro-credential builds upon the BPI Building Analyst (BA), Energy Auditor (EA) or Quality Control Inspector (QCI) certifications to verify competencies required to conduct in-depth healthy home environmental risk assessments. The Healthy Home Evaluator assesses home-based environmental health and safety hazards and provides a prioritized list of recommendations to address those hazards.

The HHE credential is a critical building block and core principal of building science-based work for home performance contractors and Weatherization Assistance Programs (WAP). The HHE credential establishes a higher level of health and safety knowledge for BA, EA and QCI certified individuals.

Class Fees: DEAWP Members = $675.00 Non-DEAWP members = $775

BPI Testing Fee: $200.00

(Under the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) WPN 15-4, the HHE credential is an eligible Tier 2 training activity. Individuals working in weatherization, or with a WAP agency, can pay the certification exam fees using DOE Training and Techinical Assistance funds.)

Air Conditioning Testing for Energy Auditors & Home Inspectors

Monday June 6, 2016

8:30am - 5:00pm

CCI Center: 64 South 14th Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15203

Instructor: Rhett Major

4 BPI CEUs have been approved for this course.

The course will cover methods to test residential AC systems for their relative efficiency (both unit and total system efficiency), without the need to attach pressure gauges to the refrigerant lines.

Using simple techniques, and some more complex, with a variety of tools, we will explore the options of testing system airflow, total external static pressure, and dry bulb and wet bulb temperature changes to determine if air conditioners are operating within normal parameters, or should be referred for service.

The course will include both classroom training on the basics of the refrigeration cycle, airflow testing methods, and Enthalpy change; and will include hands on testing of and air conditioning system  to measure airflow, and both sensible and latent heat change.

Written Handouts from Tru Tech Tools & DEAWP (AC Performance worksheet, Enthalpy Tables, etc.), will help provide the basis for our testing.

DEAWP current members: $195.00

Non-DEAWP members: $245.00 (ask about membership options)

BPI - 1200

Standard Practice for Basic Analysis of Buildings Overview of the Changes

May 6th, 8:30am - 4:30pm

CCI Center

64 South 14th Street, Pittsburgh,  PA 15203

4 BPI CEU's Approved

As you should know by now, the 17 page BPI Building Analyst standards you already learned, have been replaced with a 60 page ANSI approved document called BPI - 1200. While some things have remained the same, many have not. This class will be an overview of the changes in broads strokes, with a focus on combustion safety standards.

We will cover the updates in BPI - 1200 from the Legacy BA standards; include new ASHRAE 62-2 2013 ventilation standards. This one day intensive course will include handouts and online APPs to calculate ventilation requirements.

The old standards (Legacy Standards) are still in common practice with utilities, and should be followed as program dictates, but there are significant changes that you can practice now.

The new standards are downloadable by cutting and pasting this link:

http://www.bpi.org/files/pdf/ANSI%20BPI-1200-S-2015%20Standard%20Practice%20for%20Basic%20Analysis%20of%20Buildings.pdf
